This week's free design is the Tranquil Nook, a compact 1 bedroom country-style home offering approximately 59.6 m² / 642 sq ft of living area, plus generous front and rear patios.
It could suit a downsizer, small acreage property, guest accommodation, holiday cottage, secondary dwelling or anyone looking for a simple and comfortable small-home concept.

Tranquil Nook – Free 1 Bedroom House Plan
The Tranquil Nook proves that a smaller home doesn't necessarily mean giving up comfortable living spaces.
The design combines the kitchen, meals and living areas into an open-plan central space, while the bedroom and bathroom are positioned separately for privacy.
One of my favourite features of this design is the full-width front and rear patios. They provide additional outdoor living space and give what is otherwise a relatively compact home a much more relaxed country-home feel.

If you decide this is the home you would like to build, the design can be developed into a more detailed Full Construction Plan package.
Depending on your location and building requirements, additional local documentation may also be required, including structural engineering, site plans, energy assessments, soil information and other authority-specific documentation.
A Good Design for Affordable Small-Home Living
One reason I like this plan is its simplicity.
Complicated roof lines, excessive corners and unnecessarily complex layouts can all add to building costs. The Tranquil Nook takes a much simpler approach, while the long front verandah gives the home character and useful outdoor living space.
For someone looking at a smaller home, downsizing, acreage living or a secondary dwelling, it provides a useful starting point.
